Custom Orthotics & Shoe Modifications: Dress
Or Work Shoes
At Podiatry Affiliates, we offer a
wide variety of services with respect to shoes and shoe modifications.
This includes custom made devices such as custom orthotics, prefabricated
shoe inserts and pads, personalized shoe modifications, and diabetic
shoes with custom molded inlays.
These devices are used in conditions to properly align the foot, which
improves strength and function in conditions like flat feet or high arched
feet; to reduce pain in conditions resulting from abnormal biomechanics
such as heel pain or tendonitis; or to alleviate painful pressure points
due to bunions or hammertoes, or to protect the foot affected by diabetes,
arthritis, or poor circulation. |

Diabetic Foot Care: Medical & Surgical
A patient with diabetes mellitus is at risk for serious foot problems
which may require medial and surgical care, and can produce serious complications
including ulceration, infection and/or amputation. Podiatric care, both
medical and surgical, integrated with your overall medial care can reduce
the incidence and severity of these complications.
Most diabetic patients are seen periodically for prevention of problems.

Foot Surgery: In-Office & Hospital
Corrective surgery for various foot deformities and problems are commonly
performed to prevent problems from recurring. This includes those procedures
that we perform in our office under local anesthesia, as well as those
that are performed in a hospital setting or an ambulatory surgical center.
|
Procedures typically performed in the office include ingrown toenail
correction, or removal or destruction of warts and other skin growths
(utilizing a surgical laser).
Other foot surgery is performed as an inpatient or outpatient at one
of the local hospitals, or at an ambulatory surgical center. These procedures
typically include correction of bunion deformities, hammer toe correction
and removal of bone bumps, soft tissue tumors (such as ganglions and
nerve growths) and certain procedures utilizing a surgical endoscope.
These endoscopic procedures include release of a tight ligament on the
bottom of the heel for chronic plantar fasciitis and release of the ligament
that presses on a nerve.

In-Office Diagnostic Testing
Our office is equipped to perform
x-rays at the time of your visit. In addition to diagnostic x-rays, we
also perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for various conditions.
These conditions may include evaluation for the presence of a foreign
body in the foot, or to evaluate the condition of tendons and ligaments,
as well as soft tissue tumors.

Sports Diagnosis & Treatment
Our practice sees a host of athletes -- from college to high
school to the "weekend warrior". We evaluate and treat sports
related foot injuries and problems both medically and surgically.
We also use the "team approach" with
physical therapy, biomechanical orthoses, and shoe modifications, to
get you back to your sport activity as quickly as possible. Special shoe
modifications, biomechanical orthotics as well as arch supports and wedges
all are provided by our office. |
|
We participate in the Medicare diabetic shoe program and provide
special shoes and custom inserts for this program. Most shoes can be
modified by placing pads under the insole or adjusting the existing insole.
This applies to athletic shoes and work boots as well as women’s,
high heel shoes.

In-Office Laser Surgery For Ingrown Toenails
Laser beam surgery can be used to treat many ailments without
the need for cutting into the skin. Utilizing a local anesthetic, after
removing the ingrown portion of nail, the laser beam is used to destroy
the root of the nail, preventing the nail from re-growing. No sutures
are necessary, and post-operative pain is minimal.

In-Office Laser Therapy for Warts
|
Warts may not only be unsightly, but can be very painful. By utilizing
a laser beam, this virus causing disorder can be managed without cutting
into the skin. A low dose laser can be used to vaporize the wart without
anesthesia.
The laser may also be used, under anesthesia, at a high dose level to
completely remove the wart at one visit. No stitches are necessary and
healing time is usually faster than with surgical removal. |
